Kansas City Chiefs rookie is looking like a player the team will have a tough time keeping off the field

The Kansas City Chiefs are always great at finding talent that no one knows about. Well, they may have done it again. They have a very good undrafted free agent class, with running back Carson Steele leading the way in that regard after an impressive preseason in Week 1.

Now, this rookie draft class could be great. The left tackle they drafted, Kingsley Suamataia, is looking to be very good, and has a ton of potential. Xavier Worthy has elite speed and could be a great weapon for Patrick Mahomes this year and in the future. But, both of those guys got pulled early in the preseason Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

One rookie that has seemed to make fans fall in love this summer, is safety Jaden Hicks, who looks like he is going to play a big role for this Steve Spagnuolo defense in 2024.

Sure, it's just a preseason game, but Hicks made so many plays against the Jaguars that it's just hard to ignore.

He had a great tackle for loss on Jaguars running back Tank Bigsby, where he soared in from what seemed like out of nowhere, and immediately recognized the play. He made several great stops on special teams and just looks super comfortable flying around as a safety and a special teams ace.

In other words, the dude looks the part. It doesn't matter that he was drafted in the fourth round. He looks like he has played in the NFL for at least a year before. And, the best part is, he's versatile, as he has shown so far against the Jaguars.

“One thing that sticks out about Jaden (Hicks) is he’s tall and long, and, yeah, he’s playing a bunch of different positions. It’s kind of he’s going through what Chamarri Conner went through last year, where you’re trying to learn everything in the volume of the defense, and yet he’s not just learning one spot,” said Steve Spagnuolo just before training camp. “I mean, J. Reid (Justin Reid), we’re not gonna have for a little bit here, so it’s a blessing and a curse, right? J. Reid doesn’t get the reps, but somebody else gets those reps, and right now, it’s Jaden that’s benefiting.”

We are seeing Hicks benefit from all of those reps he was getting in training camp, because right now, he looks like a player the Chiefs will not be able to keep off of the field.
