It has been a bumpy road for Chase Claypool since his rookie season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Taking the league by storm and leaving many to believe that Pittsburgh had found another great WR, the hype quickly dissipated and Claypool was traded multiple times.

Looking to rebuild his image and make an impact in an underwhelming WR corps, Claypool joined the Buffalo Bills this offseason and was scheduled to return for Pittsburgh for the team's Week 2 preseason game .

    That's no longer the case.

Claypool Placed on Bills Injured Reserve

By being placed on IR now, he is ineligible to return and play for the Bills as a “designated to return.” However, the team can work out an injury settlement within the next seven days. If that happens, he’ll be released with that settlement and eventually would be able to re-sign with the Bills for whatever amount of weeks that settlement is, +3 weeks. (amount of weeks of the settlement is not made public). In that scenario, once a settlement is reached, he could sign with another team at any time. - Sal Capaccio via Twitter-X

After a rocky tenure with the Chicago Bears and a cup of coffee with the Miami Dolphins, Claypool was looking to rebrand himself in a group of wideouts whose best player could very well be a rookie.

To get a better grip on how Claypool was looking in camp, I reached out to A to Z Sports Buffalo Bills writer Jon Helmkamp:

Chase Claypool was already at risk of being left off the 53-man roster with his offseason performance, despite the coaching staff being excited about the upside that he would bring to the roster. Missing valuable time in training camp, it was apparent that Claypool was running the risk of being lapped by other players on the roster. - Jon Helmkamp , A to Z Sports Buffalo :

Hopefully, Claypool can return to health and find his way back on an NFL roster.
