Philadelphia Eagles longtime center Jason Kelce is finally ready to talk about "it."

"It" as in, the Eagles' 2023 season collapse that saw them go from a 10-1 near-perfect team to losing five straight games and a playoff match to end the season.

According to Kelce, it started at the top with the coaching switch-up.

Following their 2022 Super Bowl run, the Eagles lost both offensive coordinator Shane Steichen and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to head coaching jobs.

Steichen and Gannon were replaced by Sean Desai as defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator Brian Johnson.

"I think we had a lot of talent last year but there were pieces that we were missing," Kelce said in an interview with Rob Maaddi of The Associated Press . "I think the cohesion certainly wasn’t there like it was the year before. Obviously, we lost two coordinators, which it didn’t work out with the replacements."

Kelce admitted that the Eagles' offense became too predictable while the defense was making things harder than they needed to.

"On offense, we went simpler," Kelce said. "On defense, we went the opposite way. We completely overhauled our defensive coordinator and system, and you kind of saw the downsides of both of those. Offensively, I think everybody would agree that we probably went too simple, and that got a little bit predictable and it could put us in situations that were probably harder to execute in."

Of course, the coaching staff wasn't the only issue for what happened in 2023.

In addition to calling out his former teammates for not doing their job, Kelce blamed himself.

"I think that players didn’t execute at the level that we did the year before, me included," Kelce said. "It’s always kind of a little bit of everything."

To refrain from repeating what happened last fall, the Eagles once again revamped their coaching staff and really honed in on team bonding and communication this offseason, which has not gone unnoticed.

"I feel good about where they’re at now," Kelce said. "I really do."
