Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen joined the Up & Adams show on Tuesday.

Host Kay Adams asked Steichen who he believed was the player on his team that doesn't get the credit they deserved, and it didn't take him long to share his answer.

    Colts safety Julian Blackmon

Steichen's answer was safety, Julian Blackmon, and I couldn't agree more. Last season, he was arguably the team's most consistent player on the defensive side of the ball. I personally thought he earned a long-term contract extension this offseason, but instead, he ended up being the last in-house Colts free agent to agree to a contract to return with the team in 2024. And since training camp kicked off, he's been picking up right where he left off, making plays left and right.

His new deal with the team was only for one year, so he will again be playing with a contract extension on his mind during the upcoming season. And if he is able to replicate the career year he had last year in his first as the team's starting SS, the Colts will have no choice but to ink the talented safety to a long-term contract to keep him in Indianapolis for the long hall. This would lead to Blackmon getting the credit and recognition his stellar on-field play in recent years deserves across the NFL.
