Getting closer and closer to the end of the list, Miami running back Damien Martinez comes in at No. 4 on the list of Most Terrifying College Players heading back for the 2024 season. This one shouldn’t be overly complicated. For people who want to save time, they can just google Martinez’s name.

At a verified 5’ 11 ⅞” and 241 pounds, Martinez is an imposing ball carrier who runs like he’s mad at the ground. For a player this large, he brings the baseline traits you would expect. Martinez is strong, physical and creates a ton of hidden yardage. At worst, he brings the power back profile to the table.

What makes Martinez even more terrifying is that he isn’t just a power runner. His foot quickness is outstanding, playing the style of a much smaller back. Martinez brings a high level of patience to the table, utilizing his vision and explosiveness to find space. He is the type of runner that can make an offensive line look a lot better than it is, creating a lot of extra yardage both with his power and vision.

Over the past two seasons, Martinez was a tremendous playmaker for Oregon State before transferring to Miami this offseason. During those two seasons, Martinez has rushed for 2,167 yards and 16 touchdowns, averaging a stellar 6.1 yards per carry. He also hauled in 15 receptions for 187 yards during his time with the Beavers.

Heading into the 2024 season, Martinez is well liked in NFL circles. He currently holds a string of late Day Two grades, with other scouts viewing him in the early Day Three range right now. Martinez has a chance to showcase more nuance for the Hurricanes this season, getting more national notoriety in the process.

The Texas native will now run behind a very strong Miami offensive line, arguably the best he has played with during his career so far. Along with Cam Ward and the potentially improved Miami passing attack, Martinez has a chance to put up some absurd numbers.

Everyone knew that Martinez was the engine for Oregon State the last two years. They won’t be able to key on him as easily with the Hurricanes.
