Injuries have defined the Carolina Panthers training camp and preseason.

On Thursday, during a joint practice with the New York Jets , it was no different. The injury news may have gotten worse .

Thus, the Panthers had to make a move. The move? claiming guard Mason Brooks off of waivers.

Brooks was cut by the Commanders on Wednesday. He spent last season on their practice squad and did not get called up for any regular-season action.

To add Brooks, the Panthers said goodbye to second-year guard Nash Jensen. It was believed that Jensen could make the team as a reserve option. However, that quickly changed following the "concerning" injury to guard Chandler Zavala.

“So, we’re concerned about that one,” Panthers head coach Dave Canales said . “Feels like it could be a little bit of a longer deal. And he was doing fantastic in this camp.”

Zavala's injury clearly forced the Panthers to look in another direction on the offensive line. That different direction was Brooks.
