The Indianapolis Colts have already played one preseason game and are preparing for their second Saturday night match against the Arizona Cardinals.

Head coach Shane Steichen shared the team's plan for their starters and a veteran backup ahead of Saturday's game.

Anthony Richardson and the Colts starters out vs. the Cardinals

The Colts only gave their starters two possessions during the preseason opener against the Denver Broncos. And now we know the starters and backup QB Joe Flacco will be getting rest days during the second preseason game. This will include all the top Colts players, such as Anthony Richardson, Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman Jr., DeForest Buckner, Zaire Franklin, Kenny Moore, and their entire offensive line.

Will the Colts play fringe starters?

The interesting element of this, though, will be what they decide to do with fringe starters who are still battling for their spots. A couple of examples that come to mind are FS Nick Cross and CB Jaylon Jones. I would prefer to play these types of unproven players who are still technically fighting for their starting job. I think this rest day should be reserved for proven starters who aren't involved in any competition for their starting role. So, if it were up to me, I'd play Cross and Jones along with players such as Alec Pierce and Adonai Mitchell. But we will have to wait and see what the Colts will choose to do with those players.
