LSU Tigers flip top tier four star defensive recruit from new SEC rival further solidifying elite 2025 class

The LSU Tigers and Brian Kelly continue to stay hot on the recruiting trail throughout the month of August. Now that they have flipped yet another top tier recruit that makes five players who have committed to LSU in the last three weeks alone. Kelly and his staff now have a top three 2025 recruiting class and they still aren't done.

According to multiple sources on Sunday, LSU has flipped top ten cornerback recruit Kade Phillips from the Texas Longhorns. The move is not only a huge get for the Tigers, but it also knocks their new SEC rival firmly outside the top ten among the 2025 recruiting class team rankings.

The flip comes as a surprise to many since he just committed to Texas barely a month ago, but apparently the LSU staff had stayed in near constant contact with Phillips since his initial commitment announcement. Phillips made it clear to multiple recruiting insiders that LSU's relationships and continual drive to maintain a strong relationship with him even after he committed to Texas played a huge role in his decision to flip just before the 2024 college football season kicks off.

Phillips has been a bit of late riser in the recruiting process, but don't let that fool you. He's an incredibly long-armed corner with great speed, burst, and agility to play any defensive back role. He boasts an impressive track background and excels in both man and zone roles quite well. He should be in line to push for early snaps in 2025 once Sage Ryan, Major Burns, and perhaps a couple more LSU defensive backs are gone.
