Kansas City Chiefs roster bubble guys are continuing to make it hard on the front office

The Kansas City Chiefs, entering the 2024 season, have assembled a roster that blends proven talent with emerging prospects, particularly at key offensive positions.

The wide receiver corps has been revamped with the addition of Hollywood Brown alongside Rashee Rice and the rookie Xavier Worthy, aiming to restore the explosive passing game that's been a hallmark of the Chiefs' offense. This group is complemented by veterans like Justin Watson and Mecole Hardman, ensuring depth and versatility in route running and special teams.

But, others on this roster will be fighting for the last few spots, and they aren't helping the Chiefs make an easy decision based on the way they have been performing.

Skyy Moore, a guy fans have just been waiting for to finally get it, has been in the mix, although his performance in training camp and preseason games has been nothing to write home about, potentially putting him on the roster bubble.

Players like Moore and Hardman might be on the roster bubble due to performance or the need for versatility, but their experience and specific skill sets could still favor them. The final roster spots could come down to who shows the most in the last preseason game or who can contribute in special teams alongside their receiving duties.

Kadarius Toney, despite his injury history, brings unique skills when healthy, including after-the-catch ability. Justyn Ross and Nikko Remigio represent the next wave of receivers, with Ross's size and Remigio's special team's contributions adding depth.

Then there is a guy like Montrell Washington, who was wasted away on the Denver Broncos as a rookie and wasn't developed because of their poor coaching staff with Nathaniel Hackett.

Washington signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs for the 2024 season, earning a base salary of $985,000, which also reflects his cap hit for the year.

Despite his contributions, Washington's position on the roster could be seen as somewhat on the bubble, especially considering the depth at wide receiver and the competition for special teams spots. However, his unique skill set as a returner gives him a distinct advantage, potentially securing his spot over players who might be more one-dimensional.

And now, he's is making even more of a case for himself, after he just had one of the biggest plays of the preseason from any wide receiver. Against the Chicago Bears, he had double coverage beat deep, but Ian Book severely underthrew him, and Washington had to go back to get it.

And, that he did -- Washington skied up for the grab, making a highlight reel again, much like the one he had in camp . Washington is letting it be known that he deserves a spot, and he's not making it easy to say no.
