Former NFL quarterback has a bold take on Browns’ Deshaun Watson and the quarterback room in Cleveland

The 2024 season is a big one for the Cleveland Browns and their biggest investment in franchise history.

Deshaun Watson has played in just 12 games over the last two seasons and the pressure is on him to perform this season. Watson has not played in a game since the beginning of last November, due to the shoulder injury that ended the 2023 season for him.

In the short time that Watson has been on the field, things have not been sunshine and roses. He has struggled at times and looked decent at other times. All in all, he has not looked like the quarterback that the Browns believed they had traded for and that is the 2020 version of Watson.

Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel took to Twitter to question whether or not the Browns should make a quarterback switch.

“Forget about the $230 million….is there a world that Jameis Winston, DTR, & Tyler Huntley are all better suited than Deshaun Watson to run Stefanski’s offense for the Browns?”

The first thing that sticks out is the play he quoted is a fourth-quarter play in the preseason with Tyler Huntley throwing a touchdown strike to wide receiver Mike Woods. This play comes against a ton of guys who likely won’t even play in the NFL this season. Pair that with the fact that this is not just Kevin Stefanski’s offense anymore with Ken Dorsey in-house.

Cutdowns will soon be coming around the NFL and for Cleveland. The Browns are likely to move on from Huntley and perhaps try to get him to the practice squad. Jameis Winston is going to backup Watson and Dorian Thompson-Robinson will be the third quarterback.

Cleveland isn’t going to cut their losses with Watson just yet, there is too much money involved and too much is still guaranteed to him. If things don’t go well in 2024, then the Browns will have to weigh the options of moving on from Watson.

The chances of Winston, Thompson-Robinson, or Huntley running the offense are next to zero in 2024 barring an injury. Cleveland still has all of their chips in on Watson being that guy .
