The New Orleans Saints were just three yards away from the greatest play of the 2024 NFL preseason. It would've been undeniable.

On a 58-yard field goal attempt, Saints wideout Samson Nacua positioned himself in the end zone - waiting for a potential miss. That miss came, and Nacua took advantage.

He swerved through defenders and blockers and looked to be on his way to a 109-yard return touchdown. Instead, he got pushed out of bounds on the three-yard line. Those three yards prevented an unbelievable score and sent the game to halftime.

After the game, Nacua's biggest fear was for his family's reaction to him running out of gas. He figured they'd playfully mess with him about it, and he was prepared for that.

“They’re probably going to tell me I am the slower brother,” -- Nacua

Nacua is, of course, the brother of Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua. It's safe to say that football runs in the family.

As for Samson, he's looking to grab a spot on the Saints 53-man roster this week. If he doesn't, the Saints would surely like to keep him around on their practice squad. His special teams ability and effort in practice has impressed the team's staff.

The playmaker noted that he was disappointed to come up just short on his dynamic return. A coach told him just to just avoid getting tackled since it would lead straight into the half. Easy enough, right? Not quite.

“Coach said, too, ‘It’s the end of the half, no matter what, get it in. Don’t get tackled with the ball.’ And what did I do? I got frickin’ tackled with the ball and I let the guys down.

The return against the Titans could be another piece to the pie to help Nacua get another opportunity with New Orleans or another NFL team for the upcoming season. We will see how it shakes out, but he was a great interview in the postgame.
