The Lions' potential backup quarterback just hit the market

It's been made pretty clear that the Detroit Lions don't see Hendon Hooker as their QB2 right now. They want to get him more time and more reps before they hand the keys over. The other thing that's really clear to anyone with eyes is that Nate Sudfeld had a really bad summer and he's a pretty big risk for the Lions if he has to play any regular season football.

Don't fret, a potential answer for the Lions just hit the market. The New England Patriots have waived quarterback Bailey Zappe.

The 25-year-old Zappe was a fourth-round pick by the Patriots in 2022 and he's played 14 regular season games and started eight of them. You might remember in 2022 when he started against the Lions and led the Patriots to a 29-0 win. He completed 80.9% of his passes in that game. What a bad day for the Lions defense.

Last year the Patriots benched Mac Jones and Zappe started the final five games for New England. He threw for 1,114 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions. It should be noted that the Pats were a world class bad football team last year.

Zappe isn't a Pro Bowler or anything, but that's not what you need at QB2. You need a guy that has experience coming in and helping a team win some games. He has that experience. It's worth putting a claim in for the Lions.
