Minnesota Vikings make 2 moves on the practice squad, cut promising weapons

The Minnesota Vikings waited 24 hours before making a change on their practice squad . They didn't make just one change, but two of them.

The Vikings announced they have signed offensive tackle Ricky Lee III and running back Zavier Scott to the practice squad and have waived running back DeWayne McBride and wide receiver Jeshaun Jones.

Moving on from McBride and Jones comes as a slight surprise, as the Vikings invested significant capital into both players. McBride was a seventh-round pick by the Vikings in 2023 but couldn't quite capitalize on his excellent college career at UAB.

Jones on the other hand was an undrafted free agent this year out of Maryland but the Vikings thought enough of his ability to give him $225k guaranteed. He thrived early on in training camp but a couple of drops in the preseason didn't help matters much.

Lee played his college ball at North Carolina A&T and went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. He initially signed with the Carolina Panthers and played in six games for the franchise during his rookie season, mostly on special teams.

Scott was also undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft out of the University of Maine and also played at UConn. Over his five seasons of college football, Scott played both wide receiver and running back and averaged an impressive 9.3 yards per carry as a redshirt senior in 2022. He spent time with the Indianapolis Colts in 2023 on their practice squad.

The Vikings still have 17 players on the practice squad.
