Indianapolis Colts standout player from training camp/preseason has found his new home in the NFL

The Indianapolis Colts made multiple tough cuts to get down to their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday.

One of those cuts involved second-year running back Zavier Scott. Many had hoped Scott would at least stick around on the team's practice squad, but he found a new home in the NFL instead.

Scott signed to the Minnesota Vikings practice squad on Thursday. He signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2023, stayed on the team's practice squad for the majority of the season, and landed a reserve/future contract after the season ended. During this year's preseason, he turned 14 carries into 74 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Before making the jump to the NFL, he began his college career at UConn in 2018 as a WR and showed himself to be an actual dual threat as a WR/RB combo. He appeared in 10 games his freshman season and recorded 210 rushing yards on 34 rushing attempts (6.2 yr), as well as 33 receptions for 228 yards and a touchdown. After not seeing the field much his sophomore year, he transferred to Maine for these final two seasons. He rushed for 490 yards, six touchdowns, and 74 rushing attempts there. They also had 53 receptions, 548 yards, and two touchdowns.

Scott never got a real shot with the Colts, but I felt like he showed up every time his number was called. His best performance came during the team's second preseason game this year against the Arizona Cardinals, where he led the team with 55 rushing yards on 11 attempts and punched in a touchdown on the day. He may not be a part of the Colts organization anymore, but I'm rooting for Scott as he continues his career with the Vikings. I hope he gets more opportunities in Minnesota than he did in Indianapolis because I believe he will continue to step up to the plate when his number is called.
