Accomplishment by Tennessee Vols QB Nico Iamaleava isn't getting the hype it deserves

Tennessee Vols redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava made his first career home start on Saturday and he immediately set a school record.

Iamaleava passed for 314 yards in the first half of Tennessee's 69-3 win against Chattanooga, breaking Tyler Bray's record for most passing yards by a Vols quarterback in a half.

The accomplishment has received plenty of attention, but I'm not sure it's getting the hype it really deserves.

Iamaleava is a redshirt freshman who set a Tennessee passing record in just his second career start.

    That's absolutely bonkers.

And I don't care that it came against Chattanooga -- nearly every quarterback that's started for at least a season at Tennessee has played against an opponent like Chattanooga. And none of them passed for as many yards in a half as Iamaleava.

That means Iamaleava has accomplished something in a Tennessee uniform that a host of great Vols quarterbacks never accomplished, including Peyton Manning, Casey Clausen, Tee Martin, Heath Shuler, Josh Dobbs, Erik Ainge, Andy Kelly, and Hendon Hooker.

Folks, the Vols have a special quarterback in Nico Iamaleava. He has generational talent and he's completely bought-in to Josh Heupel's offense. That's a scary combination for the rest of the SEC.
