Former Tennessee Vols IF Christian Moore's run to the major leagues in his rookie season appears to be over.  We'll find out soon if his season with the Rocket City Trash Pandas is as well.

Moore suffered a knee injury back on August 30 for the Trash Pandas while playing the field in a game against the Tennessee Smokies.  In the top of the seventh inning, with the Smokies leading 5-1, Moore moved quickly to his left from his second base spot to field a ball, and he rolled over awkwardly.  He had help from the trainers getting off the field, although it appeared he could put some weight on his leg.

As it turns out, as announced by the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night, Moore suffered a meniscus injury, although the nature and severity of it was not mentioned in the announcement.

Given the team's final regular season game is September 15 and given Moore's status as one of the team's top prospects , it seems unlikely for him to be rushed back into anything. The release even notes that his injury will be treated in a conservative fashion.

It's an unfortunate end to a promising start to his professional baseball career, as well as one unforgettable year of baseball for Moore and for fans of the Tennessee Vols.

Moore, who became just the second player in College World Series history to hit for the cycle during Tennessee's thrilling 12-11 comeback win over Florida State, has posted a .330 average with a .948 OPS, 6 HR and 16 RBIs in 24 minor league games (22 in AA ball; 2 in A) so far this season.

It seems we'll likely have to wait until 2025 to see Moore make the next jump in his baseball career.
