Trent Williams' contract holdout had no impact on his status in the San Francisco 49ers locker room.

The All-Pro left tackle and likely future Hall of Famer agreed to terms on a reworked contract with the Niners on Tuesday. His restructured contract is worth $82.66 million over the next three years and sees Williams receive the next two years of the contract ($48 million) guaranteed at signing. It features a $25.69 million signing bonus, with Williams set to earn $27.65 million in cash this year, the most of any offensive lineman.

Williams has long since been one of the most respected players in the 49er locker room, and his time away during his contract stand-off predictably hasn't changed that.

Indeed, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Thursday that Williams is one of eight 49ers captains for the 2024 season.

He joins quarterback Brock Purdy, running back Christian McCaffrey , fullback Kyle Juszczyk, tight end George Kittle and wide receiver Deebo Samuel as a captain on the offensive side of the ball. Defensive end Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner are the captains from the defense.

Explaining the process of the player vote for the captains, Shanahan told a press conference: "Well, you're allowed nine. I try to do it right with the votes. I think we've always had six or seven. The seven and eight were like one vote off, and the ninth guy was like eight behind them. So it was really obvious who those eight were, and the ninth one was too far from it. I'd rather not have so many, but I'm not going to pick when the team voted that close."
