Awful preseason trend almost takes down Buffalo Bills in comeback win vs Arizona Cardinals

The Bills just can't seem to stay healthy. After losing star linebacker Matt Milano in the training camp with a torn biceps and dealing with a rash of nagging injuries throughout the preseason , the Bills are dealing with another key injury after they exit their Week 1 win.

On the first defensive drive of the game, Taron Johnson, who is arguably the best nickel in the NFL, came out of the game with a forearm injury. He was eventually ruled out and did not return.

It was Cam Lewis that came in to replace him, and he played a terrific game.

Lewis showcased ability in coverage as well as being very strong in run support. On one play in particular, the Cardinals were trying to get around the edge off the left side, and it was Lewis that got out in front of the play, turned running back James Conner back to the inside, and finished the play to get him to the ground.

Like is typically the case, players are asked to step up and contribute, and you never know when your number will be called. Lewis finished with seven solo tackles and nine combined tackles, second-most on the team behind linebacker Terrel Bernard.

What makes this a bigger issue is Buffalo having to turn around and play on Thursday Night Football in just over 72 hours after the final whistle of this game. Johnson won't have much time at all to get right, with the extent of his forearm injury still waiting to be reported.

If he can't go, I think it will be likely that you see Buffalo activate one or two of the safeties that they didn't have up for this game, like rookie Cole Bishop and veteran Mike Edwards.

Either way, the trend of Buffalo having a revolving door in the secondary continues.
