ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – According to the Nation Weather Service, we had a record of 3.63 inches of rainfall on Monday. This brought large amounts of flooding to local communities, which saw cars stalled in the middle of road as well as submerged in water.

In the City of Odessa, officials said the Odessa Police Department responded to approximately 23 assist motorist calls. Odessa Fire Rescue also had their share of phone calls as they responded to approximately 26 high-water rescue calls.

Due to the flooding, officials have suggested locals to avoid the following roads: Charles Walker and Yukon, University and Tom Green, along 10th St. (from Jackson to Adams), along Dixie (between 52nd and University), and along the service roads for both Interstate 20 and Highway 80.

Additionally, Ratliff Ranch Golf Links is closed and will reopen once weather conditions are lightened.

In the City of Midland, Midland Fire Rescue said they responded to 41 water rescue calls that go from last Friday to Tuesday afternoon.

“The issue is when it comes down fast and hard. The biggest caution I’d like to say for people is to know what’s planned in the weather,” said Chief Battalion Aaron Cox. “If you know there’s going to be times of inclement weather. You need to at least look when it’s going to hit and then you also need to get with your family members and have a game plan. Nothing is worth your life in flash flooding and put yourself and your family in danger.”

Roads that are currently closed in Midland include the crossing at Midland Draw for Dormard, Pine, Magnolia, Golf Course, San Andreas, Benton, Edwards and Barber.

For those in Big Spring, Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker said Highway 350 in Howard County is not passable and discourages drivers to take the route. Sheriff Parker also advised that barricades are up in some areas.

The Comanche Trail Golf Course is also closed due to the weather conditions.
