YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A judge on Friday granted bail to the 14-year-old boy who is accused of shooting and killing his 12-year-old friend last year in York County.

The York County District Attorney’s Office said that Nolan Grove, of Red Lion, had a $50,000 bail set by President Judge Maria Musti Cook and he was given multiple conditions, like house arrest, if he were to post it.

It was confirmed by officials with the York County Prison that Grove did not post bail.

Grove is charged in the shooting death of Kain Heiland. He faces charges of murder in the third degree, involuntary manslaughter, firearms not to be carried without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, and four counts of recklessly endangering another person.

Previously in August, Judge Cook ruled during a hearing that Grove would remain charged as an adult in the case. The ruling came on a motion to move the case to juvenile court.

According to charging documents, Heiland’s body and a casing was found by State Police in the 1st Avenue of Red Lion April 1. During the investigation that was led by Pennsylvania State Police, it was discovered that Grove was playing with a gun, pointed it at Heiland, and was also making comments about Heiland’s mom.

Investigators say that a similar exchange happened around 8:30 p.m. and that is allegedly when Grove fatally shot Heiland in the back.

The gun that was used belonged to Grove’s father and was taken out of a safe by Grove. The caliber of the casing that was found by Heiland’s body was linked to the gun.
