Photo/Brian Smith After a stellar track career at Jacksboro High School, which included a state meet appearance, Kylie Tullous will be furthering her career at Abilene Christian University. During a ceremony Thursday, April 4 at the JHS library, Tullous thanked all her friends, family, and coaches that have worked with her during her time in Jacksboro. She said the ACU community is what appealed to her the most. “The community there was just awesome,” Tullous said. “When I walked and did my tour of campus, everyone was just so outgoing and encouraging. It just felt like home.” Tullous competes in a number of events for the Tigerette track team, including the long jump and pole vault which she admits are her favorites. She went to track camp at ACU last summer and learned a lot. She reached out to the coachesthereand“they gave me a chance.” It wasn’t her first time at ACU, having competed at regionals there the last three years as a Tigerette. Her sophomore year she qualified for State which she said has been a highlight of her high school career. “I guess because I was young and had all my family and friends there made it all special,” Tullous said. Tullous competes in volleyball, basketball, and softball as well using her speed to help the softball team garner a No.4 state ranking right now. She said the long jump and pole vault, both of which she holds the school records in, are her favorites on the field. Girls track coach Steve Hooten said Tullous becoming a part of a school with such an illustrious track history as ACU speaks volumes of what type of athlete and human being she is.
