Abilenians using snow cones to beat the heat: What’s your favorite flavor?

ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC )— When summer temperatures start to soar, local snow cone shops can provide a cool and refreshing escape. With colorful arrays of flavors and icy treats, these shops offer a delightful way to beat the heat and enjoy a sweet, indulgent treat.

Show Cones is one of the many shops scattered throughout the town. It offers dozens of different flavors and toppings for its snow cones, attracting many visitors during the summer.

Employee Jaelyn Sanez said the most unique combination she’s heard is “Tiger’s blood with lime, with the lime salt on top.”

But perhaps one of the most interesting concoctions was shared by Ava Millette. Millette has worked at Show Cones every summer since she was 16 and has run across many unique concoctions.

“Pickle juice with pink bubblegum with cream and sprinkles. I think that’s never going to be topped,” Millette said.

Some benefits of choosing snow cones to cool you down include hydration, lower calories compared to other frozen treats, and a boost of Vitamin C, as most snow cone syrups are made with natural fruit juices.

While the advantages of snow cones are not lost on the staff of Show Cones, they have seen some customers come to their store who also have a unique method for replenishing electrolytes.

“We have a lot of construction workers come to get a pickle juice with pickle pieces. That’s pretty much everyone’s favorite when it’s hot,” Millette shared.
