Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council Announces New Board Chair

Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC) is pleased to announce Susan Brichler Trujillo was elected to chair its board of directors. Trujillo takes on the role for a three-year term after serving on its board since 2016. GSACPC serves over 10,000 girls grades K-12 in more than 90 communities across central and northern Arizona and includes more than 6,000 adult volunteers who serve as leaders, trainers, consultants, and board members.

Trujillo was ratified and welcomed to her new position during GSACPC's annual meeting, where she had the opportunity to thank Girl Scouts, volunteers, and staff.

"We are grateful to have Susan serve as our council's board chair and continue the legacy of exceptional board leadership. Her dedication to ensuring all girls have access to Girl Scouting in their communities with trusted adult volunteers to support them is critical for today's environment," said GSACPC co-CEO Mary Mitchell.

Trujillo was a local Girl Scout in Phoenix, and her mom served as her troop leader.

"I vividly remember camp, sleeping on the ground in tents and making dolls out of cornhusks. I learned how to ride a horse at Camp Maripai. My mom talks about dropping me off at camp and, a week later, seeing a different girl walk down the gravel road to get in the car. She always felt that I returned more confident, and she was right," said Trujillo. "When I talk about why Girl Scouting was important to me as a kid, it was a place where I felt the playing field was leveled. My voice was heard just as much as whoever the popular girl was at the time because, honestly, that girl wasn't me. That feeling of belonging and empowerment was meaningful and helpful in making me who I am today. Every girl deserves that experience."

Trujillo will divide her duties as GSACPC board chair with her busy role as a partner in the Phoenix office of Quarles & Brady LLC, where she also serves as chair of its Phoenix Health & Life Sciences Practice Group. Her practice includes representation of healthcare clients, including retail pharmacies, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers and wholesale distributors, pharmacy benefit managers, hospitals, behavioral health providers, and nursing homes in the areas of regulatory compliance, contract disputes, and licensing issues.

She earned her law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Arizona. In addition to her work with the Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council, Trujillo currently serves on the Arizona Bar Foundation board of directors and served as president of the Community Legal Services, Inc. (CLS) board of directors.

Her role as the board chair of GSACPC is a testament to her commitment to helping girls change the world. As a former Girl Scout, she draws from her own experiences to encourage girls to prioritize spending time outdoors, just as she loves to do herself,” said GSACPC co-CEO Christina Spicer.
