Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC) Drama is preparing to present David Auburn’s “Proof,” a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play. This marks the first time in four years that student actors will perform on stage. The story centers on the daughter of a famous mathematician dealing with her father's death, her sister's return, and the interest of her father's former student. A mysterious notebook adds to her challenges, making her question if she has inherited her father's genius or madness.

The cast and crew, all students, come from different parts of the college's service region. The cast features Micah Jones, Saylor Gray, JayAnn Gupton, and Andrew Arnott. The crew includes Aidan Bowen, Morgan Burnett, Chania Miller, KB Wiggs, and Riley Stone. They have been guided by Betsy Henderson, VGCC’s Department Chair of Fine Arts & Humanities.

The students' efforts will result in four shows on May 2, 3, 4, and 5. After the first performance, a discussion on Women in Mathematics and Mental Health will be held. VGCC math instructors Erin Folz and April Rossi, and Cathy Davis, Coordinator of Counseling, Accessibility, & Support Services at the College, will lead the discussion.

The shows will be held in the recently renovated Small Auditorium on VGCC’s Henderson Main Campus. The auditorium is in Building 2 (Room #2105) and can be accessed from the campus’s central courtyard.

Tickets for “Proof” will be available from April 8. Prices are $20 for general admission, $15 for seniors and military personnel, and $10 for students and VGCC faculty and staff. Tickets can be bought online. The play contains adult language and is being produced under an agreement with Dramatists Play Service.
