Some tough news if you're a fan of Conn’s HomePlus. The Texas-based home goods store, which has been around for a solid 134 years, just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. As part of their restructuring, they’re closing almost half of their 170 stores, and it looks like Florida is hit the hardest.

    What’s Happening?

Conn’s is closing 73 stores across the country, and out of those, a whopping 20 are in Florida. Central Florida is particularly affected, with 10 locations on the chopping block. If you’ve been shopping at any of these spots, here’s what’s closing:

    • 8401 FL 33 in Lakeland
    • 2800 SW 24th Ave., Suite 200 in Ocala
    • 7407 West Colonial Drive in Orlando
    • 1631 Florida Mall Ave. in Orlando
    • 2628 East Colonial Drive in Orlando
    • 130 East Altamonte Drive, Suite 1700 in Altamonte Springs
    • 810 Saxon Blvd. in Orange City
    • 105 W. Vine St. in Kissimmee
    • 2500 West International Speedway Blvd., Suite 700 in Daytona Beach
    • 433 South Babcock St. in Melbourne

    Why the Shutdown?

Conn’s is struggling big time. Their stock has plummeted by over 90% this year, and just a few weeks ago, they got a delisting notice from Nasdaq. It’s been a rough ride, and closing these stores is part of their effort to get back on track.

If you’re a regular at any of these Conn’s locations, it might be time to start looking elsewhere for your home goods. As the company goes through this rough patch, it’s uncertain what the future holds, but we’ll keep an eye on how things develop.
