If you’ve ever been to Altamonte Springs, you might know Koy Wan Hibachi Buffet for its diverse offerings and grill-your-own entertainment. Unfortunately, this popular spot recently faced some unexpected troubles.

Koy Wan Hibachi Buffet was a go-to for a mix of grilled foods, sushi, and Pan-American dishes. With a generous buffet setup, it drew plenty of diners—earning a 3.9-star rating on Google. Patrons enjoyed the $12 lunch buffet, though some had mixed feelings.

Here’s where things took a turn. On July 23, 2024, Koy Wan Hibachi Buffet was inspected by state officials. Unfortunately, the results were not great. The inspection uncovered 11 violations ranging from basic to high-priority issues:

As a result of these violations, the restaurant was temporarily shut down. Not exactly the hibachi experience anyone wants!

However, there’s a silver lining. A follow-up inspection on July 24, 2024, showed improvements with only six new violations, none of which posed an immediate threat to the public. So, the restaurant was cleared to reopen its doors.

If you’re a fan of hibachi or were planning to visit Koy Wan Hibachi Buffet, it might be a good idea to check in and see if they’ve made the necessary improvements. Meanwhile, there are plenty of other fantastic hibachi spots around Florida like Amura's and Maki Hibachi where you can still enjoy a great meal and a sizzling show.

Have any of you been to Koy Wan recently or tried some other hibachi spots in town? Drop your thoughts and experiences in the comments!
