Akron police are investigating four car break-ins that happened over the weekend in Kenmore, officials say.

On Saturday night, a vehicle in the 900 block of Jason Avenue was reportedly broken into, with some of the belongings spread into a neighboring vacant house's driveway, according to the police report. Nothing was taken during this incident.

Two separate break-ins occurred on the 1800 and 1900 blocks of 14 Street SW early Sunday morning, with $300 cash being taken in one incident and a work apron taken in the other break-in, according to the police reports.

A loaded gun was stolen from the center console of another vehicle during a break-in Sunday morning located at the 700 block of Harrison Avenue, another report said.

    Tips for preventing car break-ins

Here's how to better protect your vehicle and your belongings and ward off potential criminals, according to Akron police:

    • Utilize the porch and garage lights to make sure the area is well-lit
    • Secure the vehicle in a garage or a carport, if possible
    • Park in an area that is visible to neighbors/general public
    • Make sure the vehicle is locked before leaving the area
    • Do not leave any valuables in the car
    • If valuables have to be left in the vehicle, store them out of sight in the glove compartment or the trunk
