    Akron man dies Sunday after getting struck trying to cross I-77 near Bolivar, Ohio

    A 34-year-old Akron man was killed Sunday morning after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Interstate-77 near Bolivar, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

    The victim, identified as Jonathan Mandala of Akron, attempted to cross I-77 southbound at milepost 92 in Lawrence Township (Tuscarawas County) at about 10:02 a.m. when he was struck by a 2021 Volvo commercial vehicle, according to the highway patrol.

    Mandala was transported from the scene by Bolivar Emergency Services to Mercy Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

    The 62-year-old driver of the Volvo was not injured or cited as a result of the crash.

    The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
