    Motorcyclist killed in crash had fled police

    AKRON , Ohio (WJW) — A 53-year-old man who was fleeing Barberton police on a motorcycle on Monday morning died after striking another vehicle in Akron, according to police.

    The crash happened in the 1400 block of Kenmore Boulevard, according to a Tuesday news release. That’s near the California Avenue intersection.

    Barberton police officers reported the crash to Akron police just after 8 a.m. on Monday, according to the release. They said the man was fleeing police “at a high rate of speed” when he struck a van.

    He was thrown from his motorcycle and then he and the motorcycle struck a parked tractor trailer. The impact caused the tractor’s gas tank to rupture. The man died of his injuries.
