Akron teen charged in February shooting death of Barberton man on South Arlington Street

An Akron teenager is accused in the fatal shooting of 47-year-old Patrick Boegert of Barberton in February on the 1300 block of South Arlington Street.

Tyler Bartley, 17, is charged with murder, felony murder and two counts of felonious assault with 3-year firearm specifications, according to court documents. He also faces one count of tampering with evidence.

Bartley, who was 16 at the time of the deadly shooting, was initially charged in juvenile court before the case was transferred to adult court at the Summit County Court of Common Pleas.

Fatal February shooting

Boegert was shot in the torso at least once the night of Feb. 23. He was taken to the 800 block of East Wilbeth Road, where Akron police found him.

Officers administered first aid until EMS transported him to Summa Health Akron City Hospital, where he later died.

Police arrested Bartley at a home on the 1000 block of South Arlington Street.

Boegert was born in Cleveland and lived in the Akron area for the last five years, according to his obituary . He volunteered at church and enjoyed singing. He leaves behind three daughters, three sons, seven grandchildren, two siblings and his mother.
