The top tier five star wide receivers in the 2025 college football recruiting class are a unique set of players this year. In most classes, several of the top playmakers are surefire studs for multiple years, resting high above their peers. This class has been different in that many of the top wide receivers have been late risers in the process thus far. And one of the best to have yet to commit, Kaliq Lockett, is finally about to make his choice here soon. But where will he go, and what makes him so good?

Kaliq Lockett, Five Star Wide Receiver

Lockett was a highly rated player two years ago when the initial 2025 rankings came out, but he quickly fell down the rankings boards into the mid four star range after a lackluster sophomore campaign. However, he took a step forward physically ahead of last fall and put up nearly 120 receiving yards per game in 2023, skyrocketing back up into five star status.

He now has over 30 FBS offers, but has narrowed things down to just five school as his recruitment announcement nears (August 7th). The 6'2", 180 pound Kaliq Lockett will be choosing between Texas, Alabama, Florida State, LSU, and Texas A&M, and according to top experts he has some clear favorites among that bunch.

Kaliq Locket Favorite Schools by Tier

According to two of the best college football recruiting insiders in the nation--Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons--from On3 Sports believe that Lockett has two clear favorites in tier one, and then a tier two after those.

They believe the Texas Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide make up tier one for Lockett. LSU, Florida State, and Texas A&M in tier two.

This lines up with everything else I have heard concerning Lockett's recruiting over the past few months. Lockett was widely reported as a Texas lean for a long time as that is his home state favorite and he's visited with them more than a half dozen times in some capacity (far more than any other school).

The tier two schools have all been consistently in the mix, having logged multiple visits with Lockett this year as well, but not nearly the traction that the Longhorns have possessed in terms of visits and comments in interviews.

However, if he doesn't choose Texas, Alabama makes a ton of sense. The Crimson Tide and Kalen DeBoer have been absolutely destroying on the recruiting trail, now boasting more five star recruits than any other program for 2025.

Lockett could join what is becoming one of the greatest recruiting classes in Alabama history (including all of the Saban years). The Tide were late risers in Lockett's recruitment and earned his second to last official visit in June, so don't be surprised if he goes to Tuscaloosa.
