NEWBERRY, Fla. – The international and final round for Pooch Playoffs 2024 has been released, and fans from around the world will be voting online to determine the Ulti-mutt Cutie. Everyone can cast one online vote each day until the contest ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 8. The winner will be announced Tuesday, April 9.

The winning pooch receives a personalized Yeti dog bowl, and the charity from that pooch’s region earns a financial donation.

Captain, an Australian Mountain Doodle (Bernese Mountain Dog + Aussiedoodle), captured the North Central Florida regional title and is representing our community in the event. If Captain receives the most votes, the Humane Society of North Central Florida will be the recipient of the cash donation.

Captain’s human, Jen Lesshafft, shared a little about her furbaby.

    Get to Know Captain:

    • Likes : Sleeping, chomping on bones, splashing in the water.
    • Dislikes : The heat!
    • Superpower : He’s sneaky flexible and has the ability to sleep in any pretzel-like position. He also helps heal heartbreaks.
    • Hobbies : Sleeping, playing with toys and being mom’s shadow.
    • Guilty Pleasure : Stealing dad’s spot whether it’s the couch, the bed or anywhere in between.
    • Obsessed with : Mom, and chewing on his yeti toy

Pooch Playoffs is a bracket-style competition with pups competing for exciting prizes from a number of local pet-loving sponsors in their respective areas. In each regional round, two dogs faced off in an online vote with the winner of each region advancing to the international competition, where it’s a winner-take-all round.

Kathy Cafazzo, owner of Kathy Cafazzo Photography, is an active member of the Photography Business Institute, a national photography group that is hosting the international event. Photographers from across the United States and several countries submitted the winner of their respective community to the global round.

Cafazzo held a fundraising campaign throughout February and March to fill our local field that included pups who ranged in age from one to 11 years old and in size from an Australian Mountain Doodle to a Yorkshire Terrier.
