    Firefighters rescue occupants trapped in vehicle by fallen tree

    GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Units from Alachua County Fire Rescue responded to an incident off SE 21 st Avenue following reports of people trapped in their vehicle by a fallen tree.

    Units arrived to find a tree on top of a Mercedes sports utility vehicle. Crews from Engine 60 and Heavy Rescue 23 were able to remove the tree enough to allow the occupants to be freed from the vehicle.

    Four occupants were taken to local hospitals by Alachua County Fire Rescue for evaluation. Crews were able to remove the rest of the tree from the top of the neighboring residence and the vehicle to ensure no further damage occurred.

    Alachua County Fire Rescue would like to remind all citizens to be attentive during windy conditions as limbs and other debris can fall at any time without warning.
