Emilia was moving toward the northwest at 18 m.p.h. (30 km/h). The maximum sustained wind speed was 65 m.p.h. (105 km/h) and there were wind gusts to 80 m.p.h. (130 km/h). The minimum surface pressure was 990 mb.

I find the pallet shelters to be more palatable than ice fishing tents. The Colorado Village Collaborative operates both micro-communities and the so-called Safe Outdoor Spaces with the tents. There’s an old saying that no matter how busy or crazy your life can get, it’s still business as usual in the woods. The Katmai Brown Bear Cam at Brooks Falls is a wonderful reminder of that. One of the more notable and beloved bears is Otis. He’s described as a medium-large adult male with a floppy right ear and blocky muzzle. Early in the summer, he has light brown fur which becomes grizzled brown in the fall. Otis earned his fanfare by claiming the inaugural Fat Bear Tuesday championship in 2014, and has been Fat Bear Week champion three times. Unfortunately, Otis has yet to be seen this summer.
