    ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The restaurant industry is ever-changing with restaurants opening, closing, relocating, or just doing their thing. Here’s a recap of the latest Capital Region restaurant news, June 17 through 28.

    Capital Region restaurant inspections: June 10-14

    Here are the inspections from June 10 to 14 reported by the NYSDOH divided up by critical violations, non-critical violations, and no violations. You can find a list of all restaurant inspections for the last several years on the NYSDOH website .

    New wine bar opening in Catskill

    Dori Fackler has been wanting to open a wine bar for over 20 years. Her dream is finally coming true as she’s working on opening Chemistry Wine Bar at 354 Main Street in Catskill.

    Pop-up barbecue joint opening year-round spot in Latham

    Nora and Joe Friedel opened Dotty Lou’s BBQ in the fall of 2022 as a catering and pop-up operation. Now, they’re opening a year-round location in Galleria 7 Market in Latham.

    Revived by new owners, Granville restaurant opens for business

    Bernardo’s 5 is officially opening on Wednesday, June 19 with the bar opening at 4 p.m. and the kitchen opening at 5 p.m. It’s located in the former Pub at Bernardo’s space in Granville.

    Guilderland’s Capital City Diner closes for renovations

    Capital City Diner, located at 1709 Western Avenue in Guilderland, closed for renovations as of Monday, June 17. Bob Pilarinos, one of the partners of Pilarinos Hospitality Group, said the diner is projected to reopen around Labor Day.

    Saratoga chocolate shop named among best in US

    Saratoga Chocolate Co. has been named one of the best chocolate shops in the United States by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The shop was one of 20 nominees and secured its spot in the Top 10.

    Saratoga Springs donut shop named among best in nation

    Darling Doughnuts has been named one of the best donut shops in the United States by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The shop is located at 441 Broadway in Saratoga Springs.

    Two new businesses open on Lark Street in Albany

    The Lark Street Business Improvement District held ribbon cuttings for two new businesses on Friday, June 21. Larkin HIFI opened at 199 Lark Street and the New Scotland Spirits Tasting Room opened at 209 Lark Street.

    Beignet Bellies opens in new spot at MVP Arena

    Beignet Bellies held its official grand opening in MVP Arena in Albany on Saturday, June 22. Owner Josita Walker originally opened the eatery in August 2023 on New Scotland Avenue before closing to relocate due to staffing and location issues.

    Rotterdam pizzeria, bakery closes after 24 years

    Nikki P’s, a pizzeria, deli, and bakery located at 1045 Community Road in Rotterdam, has closed its doors after 24 years. The eatery officially closed for business on Friday, June 21.

    Amsterdam bakery, café permanently closing its doors

    G’s Famous Lemon Cookies, located at 44 Main Street in Amsterdam, is closing its doors for good. Owner Regina Tambasco Flint announced that the eatery will be closing on June 30.

    Capital Region restaurants among world’s best for wine

    Several restaurants in the Capital Region have been included in Wine Spectator’s 2024 Restaurant Awards. In total, nine local restaurants were given either the Award of Excellence or the Best of Award of Excellence for wine.

    New name, new owners: The Wild Horse to open in Saratoga

    What was once known as Dango’s is now called The Wild Horse. After extensive renovations, the bar and restaurant at 38 Caroline Street in downtown Saratoga Springs is soon reopening under new ownership.

    Guilderland eatery among Yelp’s best sushi spots in US

    Yelp recently released its Top 100 Sushi Spots for 2024. Out of the 100 U.S. restaurants, one Capital Region eatery made the list.

    From bank to restaurant: Milas opens in Schenectady

    Milas Restaurant & Bar in Schenectady is opening to the public on Friday, June 28 at 4:45 p.m. This is a new Mediterranean restaurant by Devin and Kaytrin Ziemann, who also own The Nest in Schenectady.
