Albert Lea Cantori invites the community to the 51st annual Spring Concert on April 28.

This year Cantori will sing the well-known and beautiful “Requiem” by Gabriel Fauré.

Written in the late 1880s with the final revision in 1890, this requiem premiered in 1888.

Fauré was an organist but did not have clear religious beliefs. Fauré said that he added all of the religious beliefs into his “Requiem,” which from the beginning to the end piece, is dominated by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.

In place of the somber nature of many requiems by other composers, Fauré’s is noted for its calm, serene and peaceful outlook. The music is full of some of Fauré’s most beautiful melodies.

The second half of the concert will strike a lighter mood with Mother Goose nursery rhythms, Aesop Fables and other children’s verses.

The concert will be directed by Eileen Nelson Ness. Instrumentalists for the event include Matthew Lehman on organ, Rachel Christensen on harp, Rebekah Crissinger on violin, John Bangh on clarinet and Debra Stolarcek on flute.

The concert begins at 3 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Albert Lea.

There are no tickets needed for this concert but a freewill offering will be taken.

This concert fills up quickly so attendees are encouraged to come early for a good seat. Support local musicians and enjoy a beautiful concert.
