    5 things to do this week: Bluegrass concert, lakes cleanup and more

    Monroe Crossing concert

    Bluegrass band Monroe Crossing will perform a concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Named in honor of Bill Monroe, the “father of bluegrass music,” Monroe Crossing has performed classic, gospel and original bluegrass music for over two decades. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at actonbroadway.com, by phone at 877-730-3144 (service fees apply) or at the box office.

    Lakes Cleanup Day

    Everyone is invited at 8 a.m. Saturday to Frank Hall Park for a day of giving back to nature and the community. Dumpsters, garbage bags and gloves for the cleanup will be provided, and participants are encouraged to dress in clothes they are OK with getting dirty.

    Book signing and author visit

    Author and activist Catherine VanHove will visit the Kiester Library at 6 p.m. Thursday to discuss her new book, “’I’m Packin’ Insulin’: A Journey of Living Fearlessly With Type 1 Diabetes.” VanHove is an advocate for research and better health care opportunities for those living with diabetes. The library will provide snacks, coffee and water during the event. Please RSVP to the library by calling 507-600-9337.

    Albert Lea Cantori concert

    Everyone is invited to United Methodist Church in Albert Lea at 3 p.m. Sunday for the 51st annual Albert Lea Cantori Spring Concert. This year the cantori will be directed by Eileen Nelson Ness and singing “Requiem” by Gabriel Fauré. The cantori will also perform Mother Goose nursery rhymes and other selections of children’s songs. There are no tickets necessary for the event, but a freewill donation will be taken.

    Hartland Fire Department pull tab races and meat raffles

    Support the Hartland Fire Department on Saturday by joining the community for pull tab races and meat raffles. The event will be at Hartland University Bar and kick off at 2 p.m. for an afternoon of fun.
