Sault Ste. Marie closer to $2.5M grant for the I-500 thanks to state budget
SAULT STE. MARIE — $250,000 from Michigan’s 2025 budget will be going to enhancing the Soo International-500 Snowmobile Racetrack by way of a community enhancement grant. The Sault Ste. Marie Convention & Visitors Bureau said the funding will allow for major progress to be made towards the goal of renovating parts of the I-500 track and surrounding property. The community enhancement grant funding will go towards helping the Sault CVB and City of Sault Ste. Marie fulfill the requirements needed to receive a $2.5 million grant. “To me it means so much to our community,” said Sault CVB Executive Director Linda Hoath. “To have our legislators have our back and help improve our area means everything to us.” The I-500 is a vital part to the Eastern Upper Peninsula’s economy during winter months and drives tourist in from across the Midwest and Ontario.

Area High School Shooting Sports Teams to Compete
Shooting sports teams from several area high schools will be competing next week at the 2024 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship. Teams from Cedarvale-Dexter High School and Labette County High School will compete in Mason Michigan, starting next Wednesday. The competition features 3,000 competitors from across the U.S. competing in clay target shooting in both team and individual events. The final round of competition with award the top ten male and top ten female athletes as well as the top five teams in the country.
Two Men Sentenced for Fond du Lac Walmart Heist
The two Michigan men who stole over $3,500 in Apple Watches from the Fond du Lac Walmart have been sentenced.
