ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A second person has died following a crash involving a felon who fled from a police encounter in southeast Albuquerque on Wednesday, police said.

The victims – both adult females – were in a red Chevy SUV when they were hit by a white Infinity SUV around 4:20 p.m. Investigators determined the driver of the Infinity SUV was traveling northbound on Espanola at a high rate of speed when he ran a stop sign at Marquette and crashed into the Chevy SUV. The vehicles then crashed through the sign post, fire hydrant, and the fence on the northwest corner of the intersection, police said.

The driver of the red Chevy died at the scene. The passenger in the Chevy was taken to a local hospital, but she died Thursday as a result of her wounds.

Police detained Malaktazadak Kyser, 38, who was the driver of the Infinity SUV. APD investigators are working with the DA’s office on specific charges for Kyser, who is currently being treated at a local hospital.

The Muti-Agency Task Force is investigating the crash and the role of the officers involved.
