Alton moving ahead with park programs
The north side of Gordon Moore Park in Alton has not been affected by mine subsidence, so many of the youth soccer games originally planned for the turf field are moving there. The north side is across IL 140 from the rest of the park, and the head of the city’s Park and Rec department says they will get plenty of use this fall.
More Main Street repairs planned in Alton
The Alton Public Works Department wrapped up a repair project on Main Street earlier this year that involved milling and paving from Broadway to Hillcrest. The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole is paving the way for another project there that will restore the road from Hillcrest to College Avenue.

The struggle continues for many food franchises as a company that owns many Pizza Hut locations in Illinois has reportedly filed for bankruptcy. Nation's Restaurant News reported today that EYM Pizza L.P. has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the eastern district of Texas Monday. They said this pizza company "operates units in the South and Midwest". According to their corporate site, that includes Pizza Hut locations in Illinois.

It's been a rough tornado season and a new Illinois law is taking aim at that. We can all agree it's been a messy summer. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.
