Alton woman injured in Friday crash
A wreck that closed a portion of Fosterburg Road Friday morning sent one woman to the hospital with undisclosed injuries and resulted in a number of tickets. The Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department says 49-year-old Robin Whitford of Alton was driving a 1998 Mitsubishi when she left the road at around 7:20am, driving through a ditch and crashing into a tree.

Alton moving ahead with park programs
The north side of Gordon Moore Park in Alton has not been affected by mine subsidence, so many of the youth soccer games originally planned for the turf field are moving there. The north side is across IL 140 from the rest of the park, and the head of the city’s Park and Rec department says they will get plenty of use this fall.
More Main Street repairs planned in Alton
The Alton Public Works Department wrapped up a repair project on Main Street earlier this year that involved milling and paving from Broadway to Hillcrest. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.
