    Q&A

What inspired you to write your first book?

Mary Faye stated, “For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to write books. When I was in fifth grade, my twin sister, best friend, and I wrote a mystery book together. We had my friend’s next-door neighbor do the illustrations for the book. I remember we were so proud of the finished book. It was circulated among the student body, and even a teacher or two read the book. We never had it published, and it has since been lost in the shuffle of life. However, I will never forget those happy moments with my sister and best friend, as we wrote the book together”.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Mary Faye answered, “Some characters in the books are loosely based on people we know and love. Borrowing from our own life experiences, breathes life into the characters and enriches our stories”.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

Marcia Maye stated, “As a child in elementary school, I remember being assigned a homework project that entailed story writing. My third-grade teacher encouraged each of us to be creative and original with our stories. My favorite part of the assignment was presenting my story to the class. I also thoroughly enjoyed listening to each of my classmates presenting their stories as well. It was then, that my love of writing began to take root and blossom in my soul.”

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Marcia Maye suggests, “Do not force the words when you are writing. Allow them to come from your heart and mind. When I am feeling really blocked, I get up and walk. Walking helps me to reset, which allows my creativity and inspiration to soar.

Mary Faye suggests, “Let your heart speak through your words. I find when I am feeling inspired, the words flow freely. In that moment, what I am saying is truly meaningful and intentional”.

What is your favorite positive saying?

Marcia Maye responded, “When the world says, ‘Give Up’, hope whispers, ‘Try it one more time’.” Author Unknown

    What is your favorite quote?

Mary Faye responded, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. - Gandhi

Which is your favorite season to write in, and why?

Marcia Maye says, “My favorite season is autumn. I feel so inspired during the fall season and enjoy writing during that time. The beautiful colors, the crisp air, and the crunch of recently fallen leaves, takes me on a sensory journey. This awakens my sense of wonder and awe. From that place of openness and acceptance, the words pour easily from my pen. My writing takes on a more profound and purposeful meaning”.

How do you come up with names for your characters?

Mary Faye states, “We brainstorm names as we are developing the characters for our books. We choose names we like that are interesting and fun. Then, we take time to research the names. We find out the meaning behind the names, and that helps us determine which names will be chosen for each character”.

What is your favorite word, and why?

Mary Faye answered, “Gratitude, because I believe when a person holds gratitude in their heart, every moment in the day becomes a precious gift”.
