The Amarillo Police Department is investigating at the scene of a possible homicide in Amarillo Saturday morning and is asking the public to avoid the area.

An APD community bulletin asked citizens to find an alternate route and avoid the 1300 block of Avondale, as Amarillo police have the entire block closed to traffic until further advised, due to an active homicide investigation.

"We ask that if you are travelling in that area of town, you find an alternate route. We will update you when the road has opened back up and provide more information on the incident as well," the police bulletin said. "At this time, please allow our officers and investigators the space and time to work the scene. Thank you."

APD also is looking for the public's help in providing any video footage from the area between 2:30 a.m. and 4 a.m., to be submitted via their video link online at https://amarillopdtx.evidence.com/…/public/1300blkavondaleor via a QR code on their community alert or Facebook page.

This is a developing story; more information will be added as it becomes available.
