Update: 1 dead, 1 injured in shooting in Avondale area Saturday

The Amarillo Police Department said one person died and another was seriously injured in a shooting, after police had investigated the scene in Amarillo Saturday morning and asked the public to avoid the area.

APD said in an update that officers were sent to the 1300 block of South Avondale at about 3:19 a.m. Saturday on a reported shooting, after multiple callers reported shots fired in the area. Officers learned there had been an afterparty after the bars had closed, and most of the people had left by the time officers arrived.

APD said the crowd at the party grew: "When the residents and friends tried to get the uninvited guests to leave, an altercation occurred inside the home. The fight spilled outside the home and shots were fired. A short time later, two gunshot victims arrived at an area hospital."

Felita Bailey, 25, died because of her injuries at the hospital, according to police. A second individual had serious injuries and was being treated. Bailey’s family has been notified.

The investigation is still ongoing.
