    North Heights neighborhood to be featured in Creative Crosswalk Project

    AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The City of Amarillo announced that the North Heights neighborhood will be featured in the Creative Crosswalk Project by the North Heights Advisory Association.

    According to CoA officials, six crosswalks in the North Heights area will be adorned with artwork by Amarillo artist Deandre Jones. The project begins July 16 and should be complete by July 18.

    The CoA provided a list of the crosswalk locations below:

    • Bones Hooks Park: N.W. 20th Ave. and North Hughes Street;
    • Bones Hooks Park: N.W. 21st Ave. and North Hughes Street;
    • North Heights Alternative School: Amarillo Boulevard and North Hughes Street;
    • George Washington Carver Early Childhood Academy: 1800 Block of North Travis Street;
    • Park Hills Elementary: N.E. 15th Ave. and North Taylor Street; and
    • George Washington Carver Elementary: N.W. 12th Ave. and North Bonham Street.

    “This project highlights the North Heights Advisory Association’s hard work in the North Heights neighborhood and the city’s strong partnership with neighborhoods to work towards revitalization,” said Chris Jackson, City of Amarillo Neighborhood Planner. “These unique projects also help emphasize the presence of crosswalks for motorists and pedestrians and help increase public safety.”

    CoA officials also noted the Creative Crosswalk Project is part of the City of Amarillo Neighborhood Planning Initiative.
