Multiple ramps and lanes around Interstate 40 just west of Amarillo will be impacted by construction starting this week and throughout the rest of the year as crews work to replace an I-40 bridge, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Amarillo office announced Monday.
Beginning Thursday, July 25, Altus Construction LLC crews will begin replacing the Hope Road bridge on I-40, which falls in the middle of the area between the Cadillac Ranch exit and the city limits. TxDOT said in a Facebook post that "the bridge is nearing the end of its service life and in need of upgrades."
The $10.2 million project is expected to be completed in early 2025, according to TxDOT.
The upgrades to the bridge will include increased vertical clearance for the I-40 freight corridor, as well as pedestrian and bicyclist accommodations along Hope Road, TxDOT said.

Motorists traveling through the area can anticipate the following possible lane and ramp closures, which will happen intermittently throughout the bridge project, TxDOT said, depending on work being peformed at the time:
- I-40 westbound frontage road from Helium Road to BI-40
- Westbound BI-40 to I-40 frontage road exit ramp
- I-40 westbound entrance ramp from Hope Road
- I-40 eastbound exit ramp 62A to Hope Road
- I-40 eastbound entrance ramp from Arnot Road
- I-40 south frontage road from eastbound exit ramp 62A to Hope Road intersection
- Eastbound exit ramp 62B for Amarillo Boulevard
TxDOT reminds the public to drive with caution and reduce speed through all work zones. All projects are subject to change due to weather, emergency work and other unexpected events. For the most up-to-date road conditions, visit www.drivetexas.org
