On Saturday (August 24), Scotty McCreery was in Pueblo, Colorado for the Colorado State Fair. He was ready to bring a good time to the state fair crowd. However, at least one fan in attendance had other plans. Things in the crowd got violent before McCreery could finish the first song of his set.

Things get rowdy at concerts, especially at outdoor shows during the summer. Between the abundance of alcohol, the heat, and hundreds of people packing into a relatively small space, a fistfight or two isn’t surprising. Some artists can let something like that slide with minimal interference to the show. However, when a man hit a woman in the crowd at the Colorado State Fair, McCreery couldn’t let it stand.

The video above shows that McCreery hadn’t made it through the first line of his opening song, “It Matters to Her” before the incident took place and he had to stop the show.

Scotty McCreery Calls out “Coward” for Hitting a Woman

Scotty McCreery and his band were less than a single line into the first song when a man in the crowd hit a woman. “Hey, hey, hey,” McCreery said, pointing in the direction of the assault. “That’s a lady you just hit, sir,” he added. “Who just hit the lady?” he wondered aloud before calling for police or security to remove the unruly concertgoer.

McCreery wasn’t the only one who had choice words for the man. Members of the audience yelled “Get him out” while a large portion of the crowd booed the man.

For a moment, the singer seemed confused. “What on God’s green earth? At a Scotty McCreery show? What are you doin’?” he said.

Then, as the authorities arrived on the scene, McCreery asked his fans for help. “Y’all let the cop know who hit the lady. That’s absolutely unacceptable,” he said. Before getting back to the show, he addressed the aggressor personally. “Whoever you are, that’s the definition of a coward, hittin’ a lady. Get the heck out of here.”
