The workweek we just put behind us might have been short for many people across the country but we still reaped a huge reward today. The first New Music Friday of September brought a stack of great new country and Americana albums. In fact, this week offers such a diverse collection of high-quality tunes that listeners who can’t find something to dive into may not actually enjoy roots music.
The biggest album this week is, without a doubt, the new one from the King of Country himself, George Strait. However, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We also got new ones from the ever-eclectic Deslondes and rising country star Jackson Dean. Then, there’s a new collaborative release from bluegrass giants Kenny Kosek and Tony Trischka.

Standout Albums
Just about every country fan knows that Strait put out a rock-solid album today. With that in mind, let’s go a little deeper to find the gems that might be overlooked this week. For example, Bob Sumner’s sophomore release, Some Place to Rest Easy is a stellar Americana release from north of the border. Then, there’s the new one from Jackson Dean, a near-perfect follow-up to his debut album Greenbroke.
With Some Place to Rest Easy, Canadian singer-songwriter proved that you don’t have to live in the United States to make a superb Americana album. He’s one of the country’s most celebrated singer/songwriters and the tracks on his sophomore album prove that he’s earned it.

Jackson Dean released his debut EP, Aint No Saint in 2019. However, he didn’t really start making waves until his 2021 self-titled EP dropped. Then, he caught the ears of even more listeners with his debut full-length, Greenbroke in 2022. Today, he released On the Back of My Dreams which is a near-perfect follow-up.
Throughout the 13-track collection, Dean shows how much he has grown both as a songwriter and as an artist. Few vocalists could be mistaken for Chris Stapleton. However, on tracks like “Sweet Appalachia” and “Duct Tape Heart,” Dean gives the Kentucky troubadour a run for his money.
