Bonner Springs takes steps needed for Mattel Park
BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. (KCTV) - Bonner Springs city leaders are one step closer to a Mattel Amusement Park within its city limits. The 7-member Bonner Springs Planning Commission voted unanimously on July 16 to approve the requested amendment to the Comprehensive Plans Future Land Use Map. The request was to revert the parcel in question back to its previous classification of “Mixed-Use” from “Industrial-Use” it was changed to in January/February of 2023.

Small fire at Fairgrounds listed as unreported controlled burn
Emporia firefighters were dispatched to a small grass fire in the city limits Thursday, but the situation wasn’t exactly as it initially seemed. Firefighters went to the 2700 block of US Highway 50, or the northeast part of the Fairgrounds, shortly before 4:30 pm. Firefighters say there was a small controlled burn that wasn’t reported to Lyon County Emergency Communications.

City to exceed revenue neutral rate for 2025 budget, see 1/2 mill increase
The Emporia City Commission voted to exceed the Revenue Neutral Rate for 2025, with a one-half mill increase to the mill levy Wednesday. The increase would bring the city's mill levy to a maximum of 45.104 mills, and comes with a $33.78 annual increase in valuations for homeowners with houses appraised at $100,000.
Central Care Cancer Center welcomes Dr. Irabor to Emporia team
Central Care Cancer Center announced Monday the addition of radiation oncologist Dr. Omoruyi Credit Irabor to their Emporia team. Dr. Irabor brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. He completed his radiation oncology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a post-doctoral research fellowship at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and earned a master’s degree in public health from Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.
