City approves 3-year agreement with Prairie Paws to operate animal shelter
The Emporia City Commission approved a three-year agreement with Prairie Paws Animal Shelter to operate the Emporia Animal Shelter Wednesday morning. Prairie Paws, a regional animal welfare organization based out of Ottawa, was selected by the city out of three potential partners in May. It will complete the transition of the shelter from the Humane Society of the Flint Hills on Aug. 4. The Humane Society has managed the shelter since 2015.

Kentucky Fried Wishes come true for Emporia Area Chamber Foundation, Little Lyons Childcare

No, the playground equipment funded by the KFC Foundation isn’t edible, but the $10,000 coming officially from the Kentucky Fried Wishes community giving program helps to finish off an infant-toddler playground after significant grants from the Trusler Foundation. Ignite Emporia CEO Michelle Margeson tells KVOE News this grant signifies a lot of behind-the-scenes work to fund the project and open up the daycare.
